Breaking the Grid Student project intermediate investigations into generative layout with basil.js Basil.js is the program in which I made together with two classmates; a visual experiment more easily with less requirements for their technological knowledge with an additionally software such as Adobe InDesign that offers a helpful balance between generating through code and adjusting by mouse. We developed a series of experiments using a grid as our basis. The goal was to relate our coding exper- iments to the text “Program or Be Programmed” by Douglas Rushkoff. For example when you take a program as it is you find yourself in a grid with certain limitations. However, when you learn to adapt the program you are enabled to stray from the grid and break free from it.
